(Photo not taken by me) This building is part of Melbourne's RMIT campus, located on Swanston st. The major building components are the steal frame, with Allucabond and glass making up the walls. Australia is a mineral rich country and most of the components are mined and refined in Australia. However I still consider this construction a matter of globalization as the distance the components have to travel are vast and varied. Steel is refined from Iron Ore. 90% of the Iron Ore production comes from Western Australia in some of the worlds largest iron mines in the world. Aluminium is the refined from Bauxite which is mined in Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia. Polyethylene is made predominantly in Victoria. Glass is also manufactured in Western Australia.
