These images are from RATAN POL,GHANA SUTARNI POL in OLD AHMEDABAD city in GUJARAT,INDIA. Few years back in 2010 ,during my visit to Ahmedabad i have found something which is called POL HOUSING which has resulted in the walled Ahmedabad city.This has also resulted in formation of different street intersection patterns like CHAKLA( public intersection at urban level),CHOKTHA(semi-public type of intersection at urban level).But well then Why POL housing? The communal riots inside city of ahmedabad and the attack from the neighborhood provinces necessitated the formation of the clustered housing called as POL HOUSING.Unique urban planning due to radial formation of spaces.The POL HOUSING varies in AHMEDABAD like the RATAN POL and GHANA SUTARNI POL,etc.Each POL has different interactions ;for example RATAN POL is more of commercial oriented clustered Housing ,where the two tier structures have shops at the bottom and upper floors are were the shopkeepers stay. RATAN POL has 900 shops were the source of income is on selling of Saris,Bangles,antiques,etc.On the other hand ,GHANA SUTARNI POL, has mainly residential clustered housing which has 1500 houses .Their source of income is not necessary trading, but in general (These POL HOUSING) have different interaction at urban level and clustered level by forming semi-public ,public and private spaces. Now ,the VISIBLE and INVISIBLE information of these housing patterns can be documented are as follows- VISIBLE INFORMATION- The shops, the two tier and three tier residences, the main public street which is the top image in the photograph attached , the round abouts i.e street intersection like CHAKLA,CHOKHTA, trees , courtyards formed due POL housing which is in the bottom right position, the semi public street which is seen in the bottom left position in the image. INVISIBLE INFORMATION- The existing citizens which stay in resident cluster housing,The tourist and the citizens from surrounding neighborhood who come for shopping. The constant flow of resident ,migrating citizens and travelers and tourists create different activities at different time period of the day.As the RATAN POL,commercial POL is closed two days in a week.So this invisible flow of information of people will help us understanding private ,public spaces,semi public spaces.This INVISIBLE information will thereby guide us in redesigning of the public spaces at different street intersection and the cluster housing patterns for the future migrant citizens.
