The photo uploaded is taken about a year ago at a remote community I visited in Barangay Cogon, Balilihan, Bohol, Philippines. The image shows a community day care center with its structure built using the WikiHouse method and approach and the local skills in building. The construction process takes advantage of the FABLAB network where in design and prototyping was done in Japan by Keio University Kobayashi Lab and Tokyo University of Science Imamoto Lab and ASA, KMDW. The fabrication of components was done locally in Bohol FABLAB at the Bohol Island State University, Philippines, supported by the Department of Trade and Industry and Bohol local government. Construction was both participated by the Japanese students and volunteers, local volunteers and the local community or ‘barangay’. This endeavor embodies a global economy wherein skills, technology, and human resources are shared over far distances, and then coming together to construct and build community enriching structures.
