According to the Climate Central tool, Pittsburgh can be up to 16 degrees hotter in the urban setting, and on average city summers are two degrees warmer. The attached photo shows the disparity in density between the rural and urban areas of the city. More exact data focusing on differentiating the downtown area from the rest of the urban neighborhoods would likely yield even larger disparities in temperature. Pittsburgh should consider implementing more passive design in the downtown areas.
