FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2020-08-30 by Daniel Josiah Tan
Visible parameters: Nature intertwined with humans; trees in contrast to buildings, green in contrast to red hues from roofs. Existing circulation network with commuters and users be it from road, buses or people walking. The social construct of the neighborhood; government-funded housing known as HDBs, accompanied with private housing known as condos or even landed properties. Beyond all these, its surrounding ammenities like polyclinic and neighborhood shops like bakeries, barbers and coffee shops. Invisible parameters: The circulation path that connects and ties everything together like a thread. How the overhead bridge dissects the road and instills a new life into the heart of the neighborhood across the street, as well as allows commuters to reach the bus stops at both ends. The sheltered and unsheltered paths accompanying grass patches, trees and bushes. The road divider accompanied by the barrier. Also, the building height of this whole neighborhood. As older low-lying buildings get build next to newer, more urban buildings such as towers for housing and offices, it takes a conscious effort to be aware of what it brings. It's important to remain "human-scaled" and take into consideration its users, the trees and existing buildings when building newer buildings.
