In two thirds of the cities analysed, urbanization and climate change appear to be combining to increase summer heat faster than climate change alone is raising regional temperatures. 2. Rapid urbanisation, high rise constructions, Use of contemporary materials (like steel, glass) as compared to vernacular materials have UHI effect. Frequent flood issues over the past 2 decades due to Increased concretisation and impervious surfaces, average increase in temperature during summers has increased, air and noise pollution. 3. More breathing green spaces for the city, shaded walkways, efficient public infrastructure, promoting cycling and walking by enhanced pedestrian experience, planting more trees, protection of ecologically sensitive zones in the peripheries, green roofs. 4. TamilNadu State Action Plan includes: Sustainable agriculture, Water resources, Coastal area management, Sustainable habitat, renewable energy and solar mission. Smart city mission – increased tree plantation, public space design, Efficient metro route planning, engaging public realm, water sensitive urban design, maintaining green open spaces. The Chennai Corporation Council’s non-motorised transport policy includes car free Sunday campaigns to encourage streets for
