Since we're currently still impacted by COVID-19, I'm working remotely. However, I'm a professor with classes at varying times. I do other work outside of teaching which requires me to be in my home office. For those reasons, car pooling is not an option and time spent travelling is a large consideration. As the attached image illustrates, driving is the best option. There are two primary routes I can take. One option is 33.1 km and takes 32 minutes. The other is 38.1 km and takes 39 minutes. This timing does not account for construction-related traffic or poor weather conditions. On bad days, it can take upwards of 1 hour. Unfortunately, there are no public transportation routes at present; the route is largely along country highways. Using Google Maps, the shortest transit route suggested would take more than 9 hours to complete, assuming no traffic or other delays. The bicycle route I included on the map would take just over 2 hours. A more direct route would take about 108 minutes. Since I live in Canada where seasons are a major consideration, this active transportation really isn't an option. For sanity and happiness, car travel is optimal.
