2. There is data for UHI collected by the Mayor of London which shows this effect reaching a difference between 13.1 and 17.2 degrees at midnight recorded between May and September 2011. An interesting aspect is that you do you need to go outside the city to see the temperature decrease but to the greenest parts of London such as Hampstead Heath in the attached image. This is due to the greenery and complete lack of building surfaces which both emit waves and reflect the sun's radiation which is contrasted with the highly dense centre of London which still has the same medieval street layouts but with taller buildings reducing wind velocities and trapping heat. 3. Planning for UHI is difficult in an already existing city, however, I would implement a programme of creating sustainable green and blue infrastructure with vertical gardens and new green spaces to reduce the number of emitting and reflective surfaces from buildings together with better simulation procedures as part of planning permissions. 4. The Mayor of London began a programme in 2018 to create a web tool and guide with research, mapping and analysis components for designers and developers to mitigate the effects of UHI.
