The port of Buenos Aires is the most important of the country. A stock of goods can be temporarily created in the port area. The primary feature is the flow of products imported and finally driven out of the city to be distributed. The city´s permanent population is interpreted as stock. The concept is clearer as for those inhabitants that rarely leave the city´s limits. On the other hand there is a huge flow of people from the province area that commute every day; meaning entering, staying and eventually leaving the city. An important flow of people is also due to tourism and migration. The geographically limited area of Buenos Aires capital city implies a high consolidated density that can be seen as a stock. On the other hand the recent redefinition of the urban design code has generated an intense construction activity thus attributing to density the character of flow. The classification and understanding of the above by the stocks and flows concept help us develop tools in order to plan, transform and manage the city. The density factor can be studied and projected in combination with transportation and accessibility improvements in order to assure a sustainable development.
