DENSITY: As of July 2020, the official number of Venezuelan migrants is 5,180,615 according to UNRA, this is due to political, economic and health crises. Particularly in Maracaibo, the population has fled to Colombia since we are a border city between the countries. WATER: Maracaibo is adjacent to the Maracaibo Lake, which is mainly a 13.820km2 dumpster for the city, used only for oil extraction. It has an untouched potential of being a carbon-free source of energy for the city between its winds and water power and a reliable source of food and water. Also, as shown in the picture above, it's so polluted that it has lost even its touristic attractiveness. FOOD: At the beginning of the century, this was a region of agricultural and fishing bonanza. Nowadays, 90% of industries have stopped working due to the crises, therefore Maracaibo has to import or contraband almost all its food from other countries. Ironically, Maracaibo is suffering from a crisis in the electric and water systems: we can have days with no water or electrical supply. My proposed solution is to take advantage of the lake's potential to solve the different crises affecting the city.
