a.Provisioning services : I come from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, one of the greenest cities in India. The food supplies are from the hinterland which consists of paddy field, The vegetables are by both rural farmers as well as urban farming initiatives. Fresh water supply is from the Aruvikkara dam which is a perennial water source. Forest resources in large amounts are sourced from the Western Ghats and the dense tropical forests, whether it be raw materials or medicinal resources . b.Regulating services : The land, while densely developed still has a large green cover that regulates surface runoff and allows for reducing pollution. The land is geologically and climatologically a safe zone and extreme events are extremely rare. Waste management is effectively coordinated by the Corporation. c.Habitat or Supporting services: Lakes, backwaters, sea, rivers, paddy fields and forests are all present in a transect of roughly 70kms allowing for genetic diversity and variety of habitats. d.Cultural services: The old city core, multiple venues for cultural, literary and religious activities, the large percentage of intelligentsia, 100% literacy, peaceful cohabitation of all religions are prevalent. The natural abundance of Lakes, backwaters, sea, rivers, paddy fields and forests allows for recreation and tourism,
