According to IEA, the most dominant fossil fuels used in the USA are gas, oil and coal. In particular, transportation uses oil while gas is used for residential and industrial purposes. It is reported that gas is also used to convert electricity. On the other hand, coal is used for power conversion to power stations across the country. The new policy I would implement for Chicago is to firstly tackle transportation problem by increasing the number of car-free zones and reduce parking lots across city central, encouraging the city to be more walkable, pedestrian and public transport friendly. Secondly, I would implement a policy change in design and construction requirement to accommodate better and more energy-efficient designs, increase re-purposing and the use of recycled materials in construction, stricter design regulations in sustainability and encourage net-zero designs. I would also focus on affordable and productive housings with the above integrated to provide innovative urban productive farming systems where habitats can recreate energy and produces for its own residents as well as the environment.
