FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2016-10-18 by Biljana Janjusevic
First invisible information, in my opinion, is the power of internet. The idea of hanging colorful umbrellas over the terrace is not new in any case, but still it has successfully enhanced urban core of Niksic, my hometown. Various debates are ongoing now regarding the theme of social media impact on human creativity (one of the obvious examples are countless interiors, all over the world that look alike- Edison bulbs, exposed concrete and industrial aesthetics, just to name few). World is, in some sense, becoming global village. This means that many cultures tend to lose their authenticity. But even being so, people are not complaining. This area on picture is one of the favorable in my city. Second invisible information concerns the historic background of the site. I have learned recently that the green building we see is a former WW 2 prison. So it is one of the good examples how unused and devastated spaces can be returned to life simply buy honest effort and good will of citizens. Nevertheless, this area is quite small. And it would be great for town, also the country, to rethink its abandoned spaces and introduce the concept of re-use.
