The photograph shows a house in the middle of the Ecuadorian Andes near Cuenca. The form and construction do not correspond to the area, where pitched roofs, adobe, brick and mortar have been historically predominant. A flat roof presents some challenges in an area with a rainy season and the material used to waterproof the roof is an imported membrane from USA. This example shows how the use of an international style generates the need for a material that is out of context and is more difficult to use and to repair.
