The Waikato River and its catchment area is a place of life – a wide biodiversity of plants and animals. The river, the surrounding land and the connected tributaries, wetlands and lakes and the animals and plants in them are inextricably linked. IMG 5474 d. Cultural services This is a local recreational park used for organised team sports (rugby, softball and cricket) and passive recreation. IMG5534 A striking series of carvings on Pukekohe Hill tell the stories of the area and of Ngati Tamaoho the local indigenous tribe who have ‘demonstrated authority’ over the area because of family links to the area. The works were initiated by Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) in partnership with Auckland Council’s Arts and Culture team. IMG 5477
