I have taken this picture in Singapore where we can see the city skyline of numerous buildings which are constructed using the materials concrete, steel, glass, bricks, tiles etc. If I did not mention the place where this picture of taken it could be clearly misunderstood with any city in the world as it consists of tall building and the similar use of materials. This proves the statement below. "Construction used to be a localised activity, but with the advancement of construction processes and construction materials almost every building contains components of a globalized economy." Even though Singapore has tropical climate and can easily grow sustainable construction materials like bamboo. Modern construction techniques are used because of the global economy. The pre-colonial method of construction in Singapore mostly consisted of the traditional vernacular Malay style construction or the Malay kampong houses which made use of more sustainable material such as tropical hardwood posts and beams which were locally sourced and were erected on stilts which prevented the structure from floods. The roof was made of layers of palm thatch and the walls were either made of woven bamboo strips or wooden planks.
