Provisioning services River system (the city is located at the confluence of 3 rivers: rio Calle-Calle, rio Cruces, rio Cau-Cau): food (mainly fish), material for construction (reed), fresh water (historically used to make beer), transport (taxi boats) b. Regulating services Urban wetland Santa Inés: improving the local climate and air quality, moderation of extreme rainfalls, treatment of polluted run-off from streets, biological control thanks to birds and frogs living in the wetland c. Habitat or Supporting services Arboretum of the University (reserve of arboreal species of Chile) habitat for birds, insects and small mammals, maintenance of genetic diversity thanks to a high variety of plant and animal species d. Cultural services River system: tourism (boat tours, fish market, sea wolfs) and recreation (walking on river promenade, rowing, stand-up paddling, kayak)
