I took this photograph on March 7, 2019, the day of a national electrical blackout. You can see in the photo that the majority of buildings and houses are dark, and the few light sources are coming from cars in the highway. Throughout the whole month of March, we suffered through repeated power outages that affected us deeply on many levels, from economic, psychological and emotional distress, to the inability to carry on with our daily lives. To this day, more than one year later, we are still facing electrical problems throughout the country. I chose this picture because it reminds me of the level of dependency on electricity that we have as a society nowadays; it can be often understated. However, since this blackout happened, Venezuelans are highly aware and reminded constantly of the role of electricity on our daily lives, and the importance of efficient and reliable infrastructure.
