In Caracas, food is entering every day from agricultural regions that range from neighboring districts to faraway states. Caracas has a very limited food production, so dependency on outer sources is crucial. After the food is distributed, purchased and consumed, it leaves the city as waste, sometimes in waste disposal sites that are located in the outskirts. Another important example is the flow of people. We can describe it as a daily occurence (commutes to the city for work, services, leisure) but as of late, there has been a considerable migration due to a major national economic crisis. Many people have left the city to live abroad, while there has also been internal migration towards the capital. Finally, water is an example of stock (reservoirs, lakes...) and flow: the use of water for domestic or industrial use, etc. The constant flow of water from streams and of the Rio Guaire that crosses the city are visual examples. Hopefully in the future we can increase the flow of food and water to the city, since we have a shortage of both, in order to increase the quality of life in Caracas.
