Note: this picture was not taken by me. This is a construction site in La Castellana, in the municipality of Chacao, Caracas. I'm not very familiar with the type of building materials that are used and their origins. What I do know, is that in Venezuela many of the materials were locally produced, due to the wide variety of resources available. However, in the past 2 decades the production of pretty much everything has decreased, making construction materials scarce and very expensive. For this reason, I would not be surprised if many materials we once produced, as well as all the machinery, are now imported, thus participating in the globalized economy. In this photograph you can see two buildings that have spent a long time under construction, not an unusual sight in Caracas, with the mighty Ávila mountain as backdrop.
