FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2016-10-06 by Janine Duncan
My name is Janine Duncan, and this photo was taken in the Library Quad at the University of Georgia (Athens, GA) at 1600hr, or 4:00pm eastern US time. The visible information includes the trees, buildings, sidewalk/hardscape, and the couple with their dog. The invisible information I take from this photograph: 1) The general public and family pets are welcome on campus grounds during class time, and 2) that university green space is a convenient location to walk a dog. Until you spend time in Athens, you don't realize that the city was established without a public park. Pocket parks were established in a handful of the late 19th and early 20th century trolley car neighborhoods between the late 1980s and the early 2000s. The oldest portion of the University of Georgia is across the street from downtown Athens. As a result, thousands of students, visitors and full-time city residents use the University of Georgia's North Campus as a city park each week.
