Energy Flow With Minor Political distractions I started to write this article with a simple idea on mind, analyzing the stocks and flows of energy in Egypt, also known as the production and consumption of energy. Energy and livability There is a wide relation between energy on one hand and city planning and livability on the other hand. Energy production can be one of the following; - Fossil fuels - Nuclear plants - Renewable resources The increase in population of a city would cause the increase in demand on energy and therefore the increase of production, and energy goes out in the form of heat creating microclimates. Also, the energy system requires labour force, transportation, carriers, Infrastructure, Transportation, Roads...Etc. All in which affects the economy, shape, climate and future of a city. I was looking for the dominant fossil fuels used as a source of power in Egypt, in order to compare between the energy used inside the country (distributed among different facilities like Transportation – industry – non energy use etc.) and on the other hand, the energy used in exports. One way to understand the stocks and flows of energy is the International energy agency IEA Website, it monitors cities’ energy consumption in all continents since the seventies and till the time being. Consumption Most of energy consumption is used in industry in the first place and transportation in the second Exports The exports of the fossil Fuels in Egypt is between three types - Natural gas - Coal - Oil - Bio fuels and waste exports What is interesting about this is that oil exports decreased till it almost hit rock bottom between the year 2003 and the year 2004 and then for some unknown reason it switched places with the Natural gas exports which started increasing at this point and then they both settled for about 6 years. Then the same happened again starting from 2009 till 2010, only this time the oil exports increased and the natural gas decreased. The weird coincidence is that the two years had major events in Egypt, in the year 2004 there was the unexplained plane crash of the airplane that fell in the red sea and deaths were estimated of 135 French passengers and 15 crew members. And again on the year 2009 was the Egypt vs. Algeria match that grabbed the attention of the media. And then again in late 2010 when the revolution was starting to take place.
