CITY APP : MOVE CITY : MUSCAT, OMAN CHALLENGE : IS THERE A WASTE MANAGEMENT PROBLEM, NOISE POLLUTION PROBLEM,CROWD PROBLEM ?A LIFE QUALITY PROBLEM ? COMMUNICATION PROBLEM? NO! LOTS OF CLEAR OPEN SPACES. TAXES ARE ON REASONABLE TERMS , IN EXCHANGE FOR GOOD QUALITY LIFE. THE TELECOM SERVICES WORK WELL. IS THERE A TRAFFIC PROBLEM? YES. NOT THE USUAL PROBLEM. CAMERAS AND EFFICIENT DETECTORS AND PLACED TO MONITOR AND REGULATE THE DRIVERS CROSSING SPEED LIMITS AT REGULAR INTERVALS. THESE SIGNAL-TIMINGS ARE PROGRAMMED AND FIXED. BUT THE POPULATION DENSITY IS LOW AND OFTEN THERE IS VERY LESS TRAFFIC VOLUME, SOMETIMES MAYBE JUST ONE CAR IN THE WHOLE NETWORK, AND TIME GETS WASTED WAITING FOR THE SIGNAL TO TURN FROM RED TO GREEN. PROPOSED IDEA : WHEN SUCH EXCEPTIONAL CASES OCCUR, THE CITIZEN CAN SEND A DISTRESS SIGNAL TO TRANSPORT AUTHORITY IMMEDIATELY, AND THE DETECTORS FOR THE TRAFFIC VOLUME CAN BE ACTIVATED THEN , AND SIGNAL TIMES CAN BE RESET, TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE RIPPLE-EFFECT ACROSS OTHER NEIGHBORING CROSS-ROADS. THIS DIRECT INVOLVEMENT WILL ALSO ENCOURAGE THE DRIVERS TO HAVE A STRONG PRESENCE OF MIND ON THE ROAD, AND DEVELOP A SENSE OF CO-OPERATIVE RESPONSIBILITY IN TRAFFIC CONTROL. NIDHI ISAC
