Maybe one of the most visible dependency on infrastructure in my city is slums, Slums and Squatter settlements are located on areas that were previously agricultural land but very close or within the city. The main reason for this location is the closeness to transportation, electricity, sewage and water services. This have huge impact on these areas as well as the city of Baghdad as a whole. It also affects other services such as education, health and social services. The photo below is for a squatter settlement in Khark area in Baghdad where people have build very well constructed housing units on agricultural land informally, this indicates that people do have enough financial savings to build well-constructed housing but due to the dependency on infrastructure and other factors they preferred to build in these areas.
