Ecosystem services in your living area 1. Provisioning services Nørresundby is a city located in Northern part of Denmark. There are many small forests and grassy areas around the city. It is possible to find such natural treasures as berries, mushrooms and fruits (apples). People often find it fun to go to visit such places together. There is also possibility for growing your own plants in special places in city parks. Additionally, the city is located next to a big river, which is a rich resource of fish. 2. Regulating services As mentioned previously, there are many trees and bushes around and within the city, that both provide shade and reduce the CO2 level, as well as help to regulate the rainfall influence. 3. Habitat or supporting services The natural habitats around the city provide everything that is needed for different species to live and survive here. Both the fresh water (river and lakes) and small forest areas (+park areas) are important not only for the humans, but also for the variety of animals, birds, fish, insects etc. This has an important role in the local food chain and existence of those species. 4. Cultural services The green areas in the city attract people not only for recreational opportunities, but also for sports. People enjoy walking, running and cycling around, because they have all the possibilities for doing that. In summer time, it is also possible to go to swim or do other sports (football, volleyball etc.). The combination of attractive, growing modern city and recreational possibilities around and within it, is one of the main reasons for steadily increasing tourism. Each year there are more and more people coming to visit the city (by cruise ships, tourism companies or on their own).
