FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"

What are visible in this image are high rise buildings, a billboard, some local vegetation, and automobiles. This is a typical road view of Ho Chi Minh City centre. This road is a very small alley in District 2, where expatriate residents are concentrated. The invisible information that is unexpected in this city is the number of cars that can be found in this photo. In Vietnam, the motorbike population still outnumber the number of people who own cars. Thus, the fact that this snapshot includes quite a few cars imply that this neighbourhood is significantly more affluent than the rest of the city. Moreover, although this information cannot be numerically expressed, the cleanliness of the road and ordered street-merchants also suggest that it is a controlled and managed area compared to other parts of the city where the traditional disordered street-selling practice exists. As mentioned in the previous topic, the amount of traffic can signify the 'centrality' of the area; considering the fact that this road is a mere alleyway, the information that this area is a hotspot for communication, can be retrieved from the number of motorbikes and cars in the picture.
