India’s economy is growing rapidly. Yet it has a large number of poor and a modest level of human development. There is thus a large backlog of developmental investment that needs to be made in housing, in roads, in schools, in hospitals, in water supply and sanitation and in other infrastructure. By 2030, India's emission intensity is projected to be even lower—in the range of 35 to 50 percent. Thus, India is on track to not only achieve but likely exceed its non-fossil fuel electricity capacity, and its targeted reduction in emission intensity of its 2030.
