This is the United India building (currently housing LIC), in Chennai, India. One of the many elements of a globalized economy in this building is its architectural style, art deco. India was never a country of skyscrapers and vertical megastructures, but the advent of the art deco style from the 1920s Western art deco buildings introduced this verticality. The use of wrought iron, cement and glass is especially new since these materials were largely imported from other countries during the 1950s and 60s.
