The city is a hub of tourism activities, thus people move towards the city onset of events such as the Mulackal Chirappu, Nehru trophy Snake boat race. During these events, there is a flow of money and investments in the tourism activities, accommodation facilities. The water once played an important role in the transportation, trade and commerce of the region. The goods such as spices, coir, agro-products were transported through the canals that flowed through the center of city towards the sea coast. But at current scenario, the canals are not connected to the seacoast and functions as open space of the city apart from being a connective link towards the Kuttanad region. If these canals are revived there will be greater flows and stocks of water, people and capital.
