Casa da Musica is an excellent example of how construction has stopped being a localised activity and has transformed into a poster child for a globalized economy. First, the use of concrete and glass is in itself a depiction of a global economy. However, Casa da Musica shows that construction is not just local anymore, rather it took an international approach even before the construction stage. In the design stage there was a contest for studios around the world to participate and show proposals for its design. The dutch architectural studio, OMA won and build Casa da Musica in downtown Porto, Portugal. Finally, employing standard materials (i.e corrugated glass to provide light and acoustics) in an innovative way is also a symptom of a global economies due to the use of knowledge based in science.
