FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2020-06-21 by Philipp Racher
My picture was taken out of my office' window. I think it peferctly combines a lot of visible and invisible informatin. You can see the Opera House, a hotel, office and residential buildings, different forms of public transport systems, side walks & bike paths and the streets. The most obvious information are the markings on the street for which lane is to which destination. The second most apparent information is at the tram/bus station the signs that exactly tell you when exactly the next tram/bus comes and which direction it goes. The first invisible information that could be ectracted out of the picture is the information how many people are using public transport from this staion and where they are going. The second one would be there "work/life"- behavior which could become knowledge by gathering information from the electricity consumption of the different buildings. This would be a core value for cities to become flexible and adjust to the changing behaviors of people like lately seen with the corona lockdowns. Future cities must be able to adjust to changes of its residents and their lifestyle. Flexibility of changes must be given not only day-by-day but also in terms of hours.
