FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2016-10-01 by Konrad Pawlaczyk
The visible information that can be seen on the picture are buildings. They are all different one from another. Starting from the tenement houses on the left side with some restaurants on the ground floor and an old gate with many sculptures that attract the viewers' eyes. This historic object is made out of stone with elements of metal ( sculptures). Other buildings have timber elements and seem to be made out of bricks. They also have some modern modifications such as huge glass windows and artificial lightning. All of the building are located around the sett road. The first invisible information would be that this place has mainly a transitional purpose, as there are many people going through the gate to the Canterbury Cathedral. They do not usually stay in the shown area for more then 15 minutes. They are mainly tourists from abroad, in different age groups. There are also many people going through the place to a city's theatre and other areas of the city. The second invisible information would be its touristic urban purpose. Hence there are many facilities for people visiting the town. There are many restaurants and pubs in the area which is very central in comparison to other parts of the city. The area is also central when it comes to the number of visiting people. They are commonly visited by students from the campus, but usually on weekends. Human density in the place is quite high from 12 AM to 5 PM, it then decreases significantly.
