FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2020-06-18 by Graham Drennan
This photo was taken outside St. Louis Cathedral by the main square in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA during the COVID-19. The visible information includes the number of people in the plaza, the buildings, a car on the street in the, a trashcan and many empty benches. Also there are trees on the right side of the image indicating that there is park outside the frame. One instances of invisible information that can be extracted from this photo is the effects that the coronavirus pandemic has had on the area. There is a large quantity of benches, meaning the area is usually very full of people, but because people are quarantining the benches are now empty. Secondly, one can tell that the shops in the area are closed because one is boarded up and the other is dark even though it is still daytime. Using the number of people in the plaza over the course of the pandemic one can see how the citizens are responding to the pandemic. This information could be used by the city to understand which areas have more people and then decide how to insure those people are physically distanced to reduce the spread of coronavirus.
