FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2020-06-06 by Ema
This is a photo of Grand Hôtel du Boulevard in the center of Bucharest. The visible information is traffic, greenery, the time of the day, and a run-down building on top of the hotel. The invisible information is the noise and air pollution, and the age of the buildings. The age of buildings could be transformed into knowledge by making a yearly updated map of Bucharest showing the age of buildings. The run-down, neglected buildings in Bucharest are a major problem because instead of being renovated the rent just goes lower. This continues to the extent that some buildings in the center are so weak that the building is marked with a red round plate by the government signaling that the structure could fall if there was an earthquake. It can't be taken down because the tenants are either to old to move out or don't have the money to move out. If there was a map with the age of all buildings in Bucharest available to its citizens it would be easier to move in and out of homes, freeing up the buildings marked with the red plate one by one and taking them down and increasing safety.
