1. USA: dominant fossil fuels used are oil, natural gas, and coal. 2. Oil for transportation use and some non-energy use. Natural gas for industry use, power losses, & other uses. Coal mainly used for power losses. 3. Of the dominant fossil fuels used, oil is consumed the most and has historically been so. It is used mainly for transportation, but infiltrates every other use group. Biowaste and electricity are also ways that provide energy to the transportation sector which come from renewable resources including geothermal, hydro, solar, and wind, although it makes up a very small portion. Carbon taxes have been in place for some countries with some success and this can be implemented in the US as well. Maine and Idaho are two states that produce 100% renewable energy, mainly hydroelectric due to their abundance of rivers. This is a useful renewable source as hydroelectric energy is one of the more efficient methods. Investment into increasing already built dams for this use as well as incentives to use run-of-the-river processes to generate energy as well as investing more research into methods that minimize interference of the local ecosystem should be implemented.
