FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2020-06-05 by Jacoba Ubidia
This is a photo taken near Robarts Library (University of Toronto) right on St. George St. The visible information within this image shows large buildings, a flux of cars and more than ten bikes parked in less than a few meters. Little houses are also visible through the trees that are turning their leaves yellow due to the start of fall. We can also see a well structured street that also provides a bike lane. Some cars are also parked (most of them are moving but it is difficult to see in the picture). In terms of invisible information, we can hypothesize that a lot of young people come into this area due to the amount of parked bikes, we can also conclude that given the flow of cars in just a few seconds, this is a busy street and finally, due to the size of the buildings there must be a big flow of people coming into de area. Knowing that this is an area where young adults mobilize may allow urban planners to improve mobility services for them. Like for example providing more secure zones + efficient ways to park bikes and move with them.
