1. I was thinking of US cities in the desert right away. However, it is still impressive to see the numbers that illustrate how significant the UHI effect is! 2. Unfortunaltely, I could not find data from different areas in/around my hometown. However, I'm experiencing the change in temperatures whenever I leave/return from a rural area. I want to show you first a picture that shows a square right at my home (called Ebertplatz). Second, there is a shot of the final destination of the tram towards the east which is surrounded by nature and the population densitiy is much lower compared to my neighborhood. What shows right away is the difference in the sealed (concrete) surfaces. Most of the rainfall in the city core will be going in the sewers while the grass and trees of the rural areas will absorb the water and provide a cooling effect to the surroundings. 3./4. I would suggest to make the square simply more green. This will not only improve the climate but also make it more livable. In fact the dimensions of the streets are dating back a long time and don't suit the current times in terms of comfort.
