Singapore UHI can be up to 7 degrees Celsius between the inner urban area and surrounding areas. CBD – taller buildings (lower the average wind speed), lower albedo (pavements and roads), absorbing short wave radiation, more vehicles emitting, longwave radiation is trapped increasing the average temperature. Pasir Ris Park – higher wind speed due to less blockage from tall buildings, higher albedo, less vehicles, therefore less emissions and lower trapping of longwave radiation. I would propose planting more trees in the CBD, try to develop material that is light in colour so the incoming solar radiation is reflected. Greenroof to to reduce the need for AC. Ban cars. Current strategies including the removal of vehicles by improving public transport (adding new MRT lines and extending existing ones). To stop traffic going into the CBD the creation of new towns. Other strategies incude greenstreetscapes, shaded neighbour hoods and plazas, using climate modelling to channel wind flow e.g. Pungol. Green facades are also present and increasing throughout the CBD to reduce the need for AC and provide additional shade.
