An implementation of a Citizen Design Science project would be a great idea, however, at this moment I would propose a slightly different project, essential for Kyiv. For example, the general plan for Kyiv by 2040 clearly supports the interests of construction businesses rather than population. The trend in the plan is to reduce the forests areas to build the new 20-30 storey residential and commercial businesses, disregarding many safety measures. Usually local residents protest, petition the local authorities to stop such construction, and help to take unscrupulous developers to court. In some cases, the construction is paused and eventually stopped, but in many cases the developers prevail using illegal practices. I see the need for more members of the public protesting and pushing for better urban design. I would create a platform, containing information about all illegal/harmful development plans, possible legal solutions, places and times for protest gatherings, access to all relevant petitions, advisory information on how different scenarios will influence the life and health of residents, the ecosystem, the infrastructure etc. Once there is more order and the residents feel more empowered, further initiatives based on crowdsourced and expert knowledge can be proposed and implemented.
