1. The dominant fossil fuels used in Canada are Oil, Natural Gas and Coal. 2. The predominant use of Oil is for the transport industry, whereas Oil, Natural Gas and Coal and a combination of hydro, nuclear and other sources are used in Industry, And power generation. 3.There has been a huge spike in the export of fossil fuels over the past twenty years. Alberta's tar sands use a huge stretch of land for mining, we could use some of the far Northern tundra to build larger Solar farms. At northern latitudes during the summer, the sun only dips below the horizon for a few hours a day, meaning the remaining 20 hours of sunlight could be gathered, fed to the grid and stored for use during winter months. Much like Masdar city, PV systems on rooftops could be used to shift the amount of energy required from the grid. Large high-rise developments should be required to install PV systems on the rooftops of new developments and large incentives should be given to install these systems retroactively on current sites. The image of a Toronto neighbourhood shows where some retroactive systems could be incentivized.
