1) The most livable cities that I know are: • Vienna, Austria • Munich, Germany • Vancouver, Canada • Singapore • New York, USA 2) Five characteristics that make a city liveable: • Economic environment: incomes are crucial for a good development and progress of any city. • Political and social environment: the politics determine the rules of a country and city. If you have rules that help the people progress and step up their lives conditions or give them stability, you are living in a good city. • Education: it gives the people the chance to evolve and instead of just giving them something you are teaching them to earn by themselves. Is always better teaching someone how to work and make their own money, instead of teaching someone how to ask for money. • Medical and health considerations: health can be very expensive. But if the city finds a way to give a fair service for everyone, then no one should have health problems without receiving attention. • Public services and transportations: not everyone can afford a car and having a city full of cars is not always the best idea because the traffic can get out of control. A city should offer a secure, efficient and not expensive public transport. 3) The status of my city – Guayaquil, Ecuador In my country one of the biggest problems right now is the constant change of laws and reforms that make people reset their rules when it comes to business. Nowadays we are having a huge economic crisis, a lot of people are losing their jobs and there is no money circulating. Because of the crisis is obvious that we all have problems to live a good life. Next year are going to be elections again and let’s hope that someone better wins. We need to bring money from outside (other countries) so it can be used here to generate more jobs and circulate money like before. Once that begins to happen, things like social security (health conditions) and state education can be improve. Also, new alternatives are being analyzed when it comes to transportation. The city hall of Guayaquil has a project of a cableway transport to connect few sectors of the city.
