This is a leased property to build a 5 star hotel in collaboration with a Chinese construction company. All of the construction materials used here and other sites in the Maldives are imported. Being this a perfect example for relying on the globalized economy. The amount is sky rocketed in investing for building materials as it's one of the fastest growing industries in this decade. The construction of this building is mainly composed of steel reinforced concrete. Bricks, Glass, aluminum and other materials are to be used on the exterior, which creates a huge tree of network that connects the materials we use to its origins. Some of the main countries we bring out construction materials are China, India, Malaysia and sometimes from western countries. China brings a lot of machineries and workers, India is mainly sought to provide aggregate, cement, sand and steel which is brought from other countries to India. We bring wood products from Malaysia. However these countries can also be the bridge to materials that we import from afar. If we were to trace the elements used in the construction in one building the traces will be outnumbered. Image source: https://raajje.mv/46752
