Due to lockdown, I could not take a picture of the city myself, so I decided to use the one below, which can be found in the Arq.Futuro website. The photo shows Paulista Avenue in Sao Paulo, Brazil. 1. Visible information in the photo: Buildings with different structures (probably commercial and residential), tress (probably part of a park), antennas, a lightened avenue with cars and a cycling lane in the middle. 2. Two invisible information extracted out of the visible information: Daily number of car rides and bike rides on the cycling lane, showing preferred type of transportation and sustainability initiatives. Function of the different building (if residential or commercial - hospital, museum, bank, etc), showing mix or single use of the area. 3. How invisible information can become knowledge and contribute to planning of urban space: By knowing the daily number of people commuting to the area (either by car or bike) and why they commute there (do they live, work, or need to do errands there?), one can better plan the expansion of different types of transportation options as well as the layout of the space taking into account the functions of the different types of buildings.
