I took this picture when I visited the States in August 2019. It shows the City of Chicago IL from the top of the Sears Tower. Visible information: 1. Architecture of the city (geometry, volume and materials of buildings) 2. Urban tissue: Density of the city 3. Urban planning: development of a coastal city. Invisible information: 1. Land and property uses (distribution of uses within buildings, number, gender and other characteristics of people using the properties, pick/off-pick time of visiting the city center, etc) 2. Environmental issues (how meteorological conditions influence the microclima of the city because of the neighboring lake, noise pollution: how are they dealing with the noise blocked within skyscrapers, wind flow within urban canyon, impact of the open green area (on the right of the picture) to the urban tissue, etc) Invisible information can become knowledge: Noise pollution: tracking the levels of noise pollution as well as surveying people's reaction and attitude to noise pollution would lead to innovative solutions for: a. building construction materials which could absorb noise b. urban design planning, which will avoid the concentration of noise c. health conditions, where stress, productivity losses and communication difficulties will be diminished.
