FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2020-04-21 by Juan David Botello
1. In the picture, we can see a public space surrounded by colorful housing blocks. There are a lot of persons in the background who are standing in small groups. Others are resting on benches under some trees. 2. One piece of invisible information is that the picture was taken on a Sunday. Usually, the inhabitants of the neighborhood go out on the weekend to buy groceries, have a meal outside, or even just for a walk. Another invisible information is that the typology of the buildings promotes the encounter. The mixed-used of housing and commerce maintains a constant activity on the ground floor which generates flows, transits, and spontaneous urban situations. 3. Architecture and planning have a direct impact on the liveability of an urban area. If this zone were only consolidated by residential blocks, the encounter wouldn't be possible, as everyone would need to take the car or another transport means to find their daily products. The information derived from the social-physical condition of the neighborhood could lead us to know how a community works in harmony. Finally, this knowledge provided by the analysis can be applied to other cases and future developments for a social-sustainable project.
