**1-2.** Which are the main UHI effects that you can identify in your area? **Bucharest, Romania** – I have been living here all my life. It’s situated in a temperate climate, with hot summers and cold winters. It used to be like this until approximately 5-10 years ago when the weather has started to change, with temperatures increasing especially during the cold season. When I was a child, we used to have a lot of snow during winter, but this winter it snowed only once and it lasted just a few days. The temperatures have been mainly above 0 degrees Celsius, so the weather has really changed, turning warmer. It is predicted that by the year 2100, Bucharest will have the average summer temperature of present-day Erbil, Iraq (36,4oC), when the present average is 28.1 oC. Bucharest currently occupies 5th place in Top 10 fastest-warming cities in the world. If recent emissions continue to increase, the temperature will rise with 7.9 oC, but with moderate emission cuts, the temperature will only rise with 4.2 oC. A major contributing factor is air pollution caused by heavy industry and also by traffic congestion. REST OF EXERCISE IS IN THE FORUM DISCUSSION.
