The residential building on the photo was built in approximately 1970s. At that time, no construction materials were imported, because everything was produced within the USSR territory. Looking at the buildings after 1990s (built in independent Ukraine) the materials remain predominantly locally produced, as all necessary raw materials can be extracted and processed within the country. However, import of construction details exists. The examples of imported items in the picture may be the metal plastic windows (imported due to higher quality of materials and better technology than locally available), or plumbing (imported items deem to be of higher quality/more reliable). The sources of imported items in Ukraine’s construction sphere are usually Germany, Italy, Czech, which also have the necessary natural resources, but, at least until recently, have used better technology to produce the building materials, thus raising demand for some items in the Ukrainian market.
