Delhi being an advanced city uses Reinforcement cement concrete (RCC) as structural system because high rise construction is becoming mandatory due to rise in population. This forces contractors and architects to engage into globalized construction materials and techniques. But other components of building like Bricks can have alternative material instead. For example - Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) blocks. AAC blocks are made up of fly-ash a by-product of industries making it eco-friendly material. It helps to avoid termites, damages or losses as are made from an inorganic material. AAC Block can be used to build both internal and external walls. These are strong & lightweight building materials therefore easy to transport to upper floors. AAC blocks are available in large sizes and hence less no. of joints. This ultimately results in faster construction on site and less consumption of either cement-mortar or chemical and also increasing the strength of wall. The use of AAC blocks reduces the construction cost by almost 30%. These blocks contain discontinuous air pores which do not allow water to pass through. AAC blocks do not absorb water like red bricks or clay brick, which absorb a lot of water due to their high capillary action.
