Ecosystem services in Guayaquil a. Provisioning services Guayaquil is one of the top 3 cities in Ecuador. People usually get their food at supermarkets (malls or stores with air conditioner) or at local markets (open block with people from the highlands selling vegetables and fruits). Guayaquil is an important port where a lot of commerce and provision takes place. b. Regulating services We only have 2 seasons: summer and winter. Is a tropical city, so coldness is never a problem. On the other hand, high temperatures and poor wind leads no choice to the citizens than using air conditioners or fans. This causes high energy demand and in the exterior of the buildings temperature increases because of the use air conditioners. c. Habitat or Supporting services Guayaquil is located in the western bank of the Guayas River and is the nation´s main port. Is the most populous city in Ecuador, because of this is in constant growth. It has many tall buildings in different areas where commerce and offices are developed. d. Cultural services Even thought is a developed city, it has many places to go where you can just relax and enjoy of the nature. You have different parks and places inside or very near the city to have a field day. Places you can go to ride a bicycle, take a walk, feed the fishes or play some sports. There are places like: Malecon 2000, Isla Santay, Parque de Samanes, zoos, etc. And if you have time a couple hours, you can always take a Little brake to the beach. The nearest beach is only an hour away from the city.
