FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 2: "Stocks and Flows"
Uploaded on 2020-03-19 by Jorge Castro
I tried to match the three stock and flow elements in just one photo. People, weather, and capital. Maybe the weirdest one is weather. But it has an explanation. What is usually seen as something that changes (or flow) along the seasons, is an absolute stock in an equator island. When this island belongs to Europe, create a very singular condition which attracts millions of foreign people. That's the second condition. Huge amounts of tourists come every year, representing a flow of people on an international scale. Attached to that, comes the reality of capital. Flow of capital and people are really connected down here. For example with the covid-19 crisis we are living a shut down situation, where we have cancelled all tourist income, so we are facing a dramatic breakdown of our economy. Massive changes and times of scarcity are to come. And we need to rethink about our dependency of international uncontrollable flows, giving more predominance to our stocks, and thinking about ways to take the best from them
